Manager of In-School Outreach 

Reports to: CEO 
Status: Full time, Exempt 

Job Summary  

With SARSEF, every Arizona student has the opportunity to discover their potential as a scientist or engineer solving problems big and small. SARSEF uses a comprehensive programming model that supports students, teachers, and families so that students can think critically and solve problems through science and engineering. We couldn’t be successful without an impactful educational outreach program. 

As SARSEF’s Manager of In-School Outreach, you will prepare Education Specialists to deliver innovative science and engineering workshops across the state by developing the curriculum, preparing supplies, and training the specialists whenever necessary. The successful candidate will work with one Education Specialist initially, and more will be hired in future semesters. 

Specific efforts will focus on Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students at Title I schools who are underrepresented in the fields of STEM. 

The goals of our education outreach program are to:  

  • Provide educational opportunities in science and engineering to students throughout Arizona 
  • Model for teachers the use of Arizona State Science/Engineering Standards in classrooms with students 
  • Lead students, parents, and teachers in generating real world, hands-on experiences while modeling science/engineering research practices 
  • Deliver meaningful programs that give students the tools and confidence to solve problems based on their curiosity and concerns in their own lives/community 
  • Meet the needs of individual schools in programming where one-size does not fit all 
  • Assist students, teachers, and parents with the creation of research projects that can be submitted to competitions and/or continued in the future 

Curriculum development, communication skills, creativity, comfort speaking to different-sized groups, and an enthusiasm for helping other education professionals learn and grow are necessary. The successful candidate should have strong organizational skills to take ownership of and initiative in their work. The ability to collaborate with others is a must! 

Job Responsibilities Include 

  • Leading in-school outreach for grades PreK – 8 
  • Create and develop differentiated programs for schools/districts/groups to meet varying grade levels, SES, language and special education needs and requirements of each school  
  • Create (and provide when appropriate) science and engineering workshops for teacher professional development and student/parent workshops for grade levels PreK through 8th grade 
  • Schedule in-school PreK-8 outreach for Education Specialists 
  • Work collaboratively with the Manager of School Relationships and Impact to ensure growth throughout the state in learning community partnerships 
  • Create program presentations and materials and ensure they are ready for Program Specialists 
  • Train and supervise Education Specialists 
  • Maintain communication with schools active in outreach in collaboration with Education Specialists 
  • Collect evaluative data in collaboration with the Manager of School Relationships and Impact 
  • Support Education Specialists in successful outreach 
  • Lead programs when Education Specialists are absent, when appropriate coverage is not available, and/or when important to the partnership 
  • Set anticipated numbers of external stakeholders impacted for the school year 
  • Create program content and train/support counselors for SARSEF’s ACES Camp in the summer in collaboration with the Director of Events and Volunteers 
  • Develop and lead teacher professional development in collaboration with STEMAZing for Arizona STEM Adventure 
  • Support schools in successfully participating in the SARSEF Fair 
  • Ensure curriculum is informed by the SARSEF Fair and related approaches 
  • Assist in identifying volunteer opportunities in PreK – 8th grade in-school outreach 
  • Work with program-specific volunteers and train them as needed 
  • Assist in developing STEM-rich activities true to SARSEF’s mission for SARSEF tables at events and train volunteers managing the activities in collaboration with the Director of Events and Volunteers 
  • Present at professional organizations and conferences 
  • Stay apprised of current trends in STEM education through professional development 

Must Maintain Basic Requirements 

  • Current Arizona Department of Education Teaching Certificate 
  • Must pass a Pima County fingerprint clearance  
  • Reliable transportation and Arizona minimum liability insurance are required in order to travel to schools on a regular basis 

Compensation  

The starting salary of this position is $51,000 – 55,000 with potential for higher through tenure and performance. Position includes employer-paid health, dental and vision insurance, generous paid time off, and paid holidays.
