Meet the Designers Behind SARSEF Marketing Campaigns

You might have noticed some of the eye-catching graphics SARSEF has been using to recruit judges and volunteers as well as to promote their involvement in Arizona Gives Day. That’s all thanks to the designers who donated their time and talents to support SARSEF in graphic design through AIGA Arizona’s CreateAthon, a 24-hour creative marathon where volunteers come together to provide design, marketing, and strategic services for nonprofits.

At SARSEF, we’ve seen many opportunities for science and art meet with great results – this is definitely one of those times! In this interview, you’ll learn a little more about the designers who worked with SARSEF through CreateAthon.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Arden Paugh: I am a senior at Northern Arizona University and am currently pursuing my degree in graphic design. I love hiking, listening to music, and creating cool art!

Jennifer Flaks: I’m what one might term a “professional polymath” with my early years spent acting in theatre in Chicago and Los Angeles, a five-year career in public finance, and a decade of experience as a graphic designer. My work outside the office focuses on supporting community-based organizations and non-profits that advocate for women and promote youth empowerment.

Diana Ortega: I am a junior at Northern Arizona University. I started graphic design my senior year of high school, and I’m still learning. As a hobby I like to do digital art, and paint.

Why did you decide to participate in CreateAthon?

Arden Paugh: I love design and the ability to create new things, so combining that with the opportunity to work with amazing non-profits was a must-do for me.

Jennifer Flaks: During these challenging times when so many organizations in the nonprofit community are struggling, it was really gratifying to provide my services pro bono to an organization that makes such an impact in the lives of young people. It was also fun to work with branding that was completely different from the clients with whom I typically work. Plus, it was remote this year, so I could sneak in some naps. All kidding aside, this was my first CreateAthon, and I truly didn’t expect to get so much out of it personally.

Diana Ortega: I wanted to help a charity, and see my work used for good!

What do you think everyone should know about SARSEF now that you’ve worked with them?

Arden Paugh: SARSEF is an incredibly genuine and caring organization. Listening to the way Julie Euber, SARSEF’s COO, talked about this organization and the passion they have for the kids is inspiring and I was so excited to work with them through this process.

Jennifer Flaks: SARSEF’s work makes a direct, resonate and lasting impact on the lives of young people, providing access to science and engineering through high-quality training events, mentorship and STEM competitions. Through their programs, children of all ages learn problem-solving and critical thinking skills that are highly transferable across many industries and can be used throughout their professional lives.

Diana Ortega: They are a wonderful organization and Julie is one of the nicest ladies I’ve met. I admire their support for education for the youth.

Do you have services or a website that you would like to share?
