Southern Arizona Students Win Top Awards at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (May 19, 2017) in Los Angeles, CA 

One Student wins trip to Nobel Awards Ceremony

Society for Science & the Public, in partnership with the Intel Foundation, announced Grand Awards of the Intel ISEF 2017. The 2017 Intel ISEF included representatives from 78 countries across the globe.Student winners are ninth through twelfth graders who earned the right to compete at the Intel ISEF 2017 by winning a top prize at their regional, state or national science fair. 

SARSEF (the Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation) had many top winners at this prestigious event:

Jeremiah Pate, of Oro Valley, AZ represented SARSEF and won the following awards for his project curing Parkinson’s disease using the body’s own cellular defenses. 

Ameliorating Alpha-Synuclein Aggregation in Parkinson’s Using Optimized Chaperones: An in silico Approach”

  1. Dudley R. Herschbach SIYSS (Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar) Award

The SIYSS is a week-long multi-disciplinary seminar highlighting some of the most remarkable achievements by young scientists from around the world. 

The seminar is held in Stockholm, Sweden and includes an all-expenses paid trip featuring attendance at the Nobel Prize Awards

  1. Intel ISEF Best of Category Award of $5,000  For the Best of Category winner – $5,000,  plus a $1,000 grant will be given to the winners’ school and the Intel ISEF Affiliated Fair they represent which is SARSEF – the Southern Arizona Research Science and Engineering Foundation.
  2. Intel ISEF First Place Award of $3,000
  3. University of Arizona Tuition Scholarship $40,000

Joseph Galasso, Galasso Homeschool, AZ, United States of America won the Intel ISEF Third Place Award of $1,000
